Bayer Advanced and National Arbor Day Foundation Recruit Homeowners to Reforest America

Research Triangle Park, NC (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

For the seventh consecutive year, Bayer Advanced™, one of the leading consumer lawn and garden brands in the United States, is working alongside The Arbor Day Foundation® to help reforest some of the country’s national parks as part of the “Restore America’s Trees” program.

Through May 31, 2012, Bayer Advanced will donate one tree (up to 50,000) for each purchase of Bayer’s Tree & Shrub Protect & Feed Concentrate (32-oz. bottle or one–gallon bottle), which defends trees and shrubs from destructive pests for up to 12 months. Always read and follow label instructions.

Since the program’s inception in 2006, a total of 630,000 trees have been planted in nine different national forests in five states, including:

Bankhead National Forest (Double Springs, Ala.)
Tahoe National Forest (Nevada City, Calif.)
    Inyo National Forest (Bishop, Calif.)
    Lassen National Forest (Susanville, Calif.)
    Sequoia National Forest (Porterville, Calif.)
    Huron–Manistee National Forest (Cadillac, Mich.)
Hiawatha National Forest (Upper Peninsula, Mich.)
    Superior National Forest (Duluth, Minn.)
    Flathead National Forest (Kalispell, Mont.)

“Destructive insects and diseases that ruin trees and shrubs in your garden also ravage millions of acres of the United States’ national forests each year,” said Katrina Campbell, brand manager for Bayer Advanced. “By combating these problems in your own backyard, you can also help restore our nation’s trees and conserve our forests.”

To help homeowners best preserve and defend their outdoor spaces, Bayer Advanced has launched Tree Care 101. Free educational materials are available at TreeCare101.com to help homeowners become more familiar with their trees and learn how to best protect and care for them. The website features a comprehensive guide, complete with images, about tree pests and diseases; videos and articles on tree care and maintenance; information about the impact trees have on energy and the environment; and frequently asked questions.

“According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and produces four tons of oxygen. That’s enough oxygen to meet the annual needs of 18 people,” said Lance Walheim, horticulturist and renowned author of several books, including Landscaping for Dummies. “It is now more important than ever before to make an effort to replenish one of our most valuable resources – trees. They benefit all living things by absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, preventing erosion and serving as wildlife habitat.”

The U.S. Forest Service has identified more than a million acres of devastated forests that are in need of replanting due to wildfires, destructive insects and disease. Urban expansion consumes about 1.5 million acres of forest land each decade.
